The 4 days Uganda Primate tour starts with a 5 hours’ drive to Kibale Forest National Park for Chimpanzee trekking and a chance to see other primate species, then drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park where you will see the tree-climbing lions then finally to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for the endangered Mountain gorillas.

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kibale Forest National Park.

Detailed itinerary of the 4 days Uganda Primate tour

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kibale Forest National Park.

Get picked up from your place of residence in Kampala or from Entebbe International Airport and start the 5 hours journey to Kibale Forest National Park. Use the Kampala-Mityana-Mubende-Fort Portal to the Park with at least two stopovers one being in Mubende to see the mysterious Nakayima Ancestral tree and in Fort Portal Town for lunch. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the vast Toro tea plantations, Rwenzori Mountain ranges and beauty of nature on your way to the Park and arrive in the evening for check-in at your place of stay.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Chimpanzee trekking usually starts early and your day begins with a hot cup of coffee/tea then converge at Kanyanchu visitor Center for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of the activity you are about to undertake. Move to the trailhead and after less than 3 hours you will be ushered to the habituated Chimpanzee community where you will spend only one hour. It’s the best one hour of your life because you will get to learn about the interesting facts about mankind’s closest relatives. Let cameras start rolling and after your time with them, move back to the Lodge for an early lunch.
Head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through Queen Elizabeth National Park where you will see the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha sector in addition to the buffaloes, antelopes and elephants among others. Arrive the northern sector of Bwindi-Buhoma in the evening and check-in for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking and drive to Lake Bunyonyi.

This day will go into your diary as the best day of your life as you get the rare opportunity of tracking the mountain gorillas in their natural habitats and not reading or watching about them. Wake up early for breakfast and get your trekking gear ready so that you converge at the Buhoma Park Headquarters at 7:00am. The trek starts at 8:00am and after 30 minutes to 3 hours, you will meet the gorilla family to spend one hour with them.
Head back to the Park Headquarters for your Gorilla trekking certificate and back to the Lodge for lunch. Start your journey to Lake Bunyonyi where you will spend a night.

Day 4: Canoeing and drive to Kampala.

The sounds of the singing birds of Lake Bunyonyi and the cool air blowing through the Lodge will wake you up. Have breakfast and head for a canoe ride before checking out of the Lodge for a long journey to Kampala. Drive through Lake Mburo National Park for a chance to see the zebras, giraffes and impalas that you won’t meet in the previously visited Parks. Have a lunch breakfast in Igongo Cultural center then a stopover at Uganda Equator before continuing to Kampala. Arrive in the evening and be driven to your place of residence or dropped at Entebbe International Airport.

Primate tracking guidelines

• Do not exceed the one hour limit with them.
• Maintain a reasonable distance when viewing them.
• Avoid tracking primates when sick with flue, cough or any other communicable diseases.
• Keep voices low while tracking or when in the presence of these two primate species.
• Making noise when tracking primates is prohibited.
• Trekkers have to be 15 years and above.
• Wash hands before tracking primates.
• Littering the Park with rubbish is not allowed.
