The 2 days Uganda Chimpanzee trekking tour leads you to Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda for unforgettable chimpanzee trekking experience. Gazetted in 1993, Kibale Forest National Park is a 795 square kilometer Conservation Area of mainly Tropical forest interspersed with patches of wetlands and grasslands.
Kibale Forest National Park is known to harbor over 70 species of mammals that include more than 13 species of primates, hence making it the primate capital of the World. Of the species of primates, the Chimpanzees are the most popular and do far is has at least a quarter of Uganda’s Chimpanzee population. Also, this Forest Park is a birding area with over 375 species of birds to look out for.

Detailed itinerary of the 2 Days Uganda Chimpanzee trekking tour

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.

After your early morning shower and breakfast, be prepared to be picked by our driver guide at 6:00 am so that you are out of the City by 6:30 am to beat the early morning traffic jam. Drive through the Kampala-Mityana-Mubende-Fort Portal route but to make the 5 hours exciting, there will be a number of stopovers. The first stopover will be at Nakayima Ancestral tree on Mubende Hill in the Mubende district.
Continue with your journey until Kibale Forest National Park where you will proceed to the secluded Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve and Community Campsite for a mouth-watering meal (lunch).
After enjoying your lunch, head for a nature walk around Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve and Campsite where you will see the breathtaking volcanic Crater Lake and ancient Forest as well as numerous bird species. Return to the waiting vehicle to proceed to the pre-booked Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and return to Kampala.

Start the beautiful day by waking up early and having breakfast before meeting at Kanyanchu visitor center for a briefing on the guidelines of tracking mankind’s closest relatives. Be at the briefing point at 7:00 am and at the trailhead at 8:00 am for a 1-3 hours’ trek to the allocated chimpanzee community. The briefing is a way of making trekkers aware of what to expect and how to react in case of attacks from the Chimpanzees.
Once found, you will be allowed to spend only 60 minutes with them taking photos of them feeding, playing, grooming and resting as well as learn their outstanding way of life. After this wonderful moment, return to the waiting vehicle that will take you to the Safari Lodge for check-out and finally return to Kampala. Have lunch in Fort Portal Town and arrive in the evening.
